Do you suffer from chronic insomnia? In this post, I will be sharing my journey of overcoming chronic insomnia and the methods I’ve adopted to ensure a good night’s sleep. Get ready to finally get the restful sleep you deserve!

What is Chronic Insomnia? How do you know if you are suffering from this?

Insomnia is a sleep disorder that affects around one-third of the adult population. It is characterized by difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early and not being able to fall back asleep. However, CHRONIC INSOMNIA is a type of insomnia that lasts for at least three months and occurs at least three nights a week. It is different from acute, or short-term, insomnia, which lasts for a few days or weeks. Chronic insomnia can be caused by a variety of factors, such as stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, or medication side effects.

Chronic insomnia is very frustrating and can be disruptive to daily life. It can lead to more serious consequences such as daytime fatigue, impaired work performance or worse, it can contribute to health problems such as obesity and cardiovascular disease.

I discovered a combination of supplements, healing oils, healthy eating and bedtime routines that helped me conquer my CHRONIC INSOMNIA. Here’s how I did it:

1. Supplements and herbal oils:

Recently, I started taking a wonderful magnesium supplement to relax my muscles and calm my mind before sleeping. I also gave Nature’s Sunshine’s Melatonin a go, and it really helped me get back into my natural sleep groove (Currently, I no longer use this as I am already back with my regular sleeping pattern). My favorite at the moment that I’m holding above is Ashwagandha from Global Healing and DreamZzz from BrickHouse Nutrition these 2 are my holy grail for sleep aids!

I also use Essential Oil Blends from Barefut (Sleep Essential Oil Blend is my favorite so far!), I just put a few drops in my diffuser and as inhale the natural aromas my mind begins to unwind, and the stresses of the day slowly fade away. It’s like drifting off to dreamland on a cloud of tranquility.

2. Healthy Eating:

I also made some changes to my diet. I replaced regular white sugar to natural sweeteners (read here), started eating more fruits and vegetables and added sleep-promoting foods to my diet such as cherries, almonds and bananas. I only take mushroom tea in the morning and as much as possible avoid taking any caffeinated drinks in the afternoon.

3. Background Noise:

I’ve recently discovered a pro-tip for falling asleep – background noise! Specifically, I prefer listening to nature sounds because they help drown out any unwanted noises and create a really calming vibe. It’s been working wonders for me! I wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day. Check out my favorite background noise on YouTube!

4. Sleep app:

Sleeping apps can help battle insomnia by providing features such as guided meditation, sleep tracking, and personalized sleep recommendations, helping improve sleep quality and develop healthy sleep habits. I use BetterSleep App – It’s free!

5. Get comfortable:

Investing in a good quality mattress and comfortable pillows can be helpful for getting a good night’s sleep. A supportive mattress helps to reduce pain and discomfort, which can help you relax and fall asleep more easily. Meanwhile, pillows (I use CBD Pillows, it’s awesome!!!) that cradle your head and neck in a comfortable position can help reduce snoring and other sleep-related issues. I also sometimes use blue light before bed. I wear a pair of Blue Light Blocking Glasses 2-3 hours before I want to go to bed on my Purple mattress, even if it’s light outside. This biohack has transformed my sleep, and I suggest you try it! When you have a comfortable and supportive sleeping surface, it can make all the difference in helping you get the restful sleep you need to battle insomnia and feel your best.

Combined, these strategies helped me finally conquer my insomnia. I now sleep soundly through the night and wake up feeling rested and refreshed. If you’re struggling with insomnia, I encourage you to try these tips and see if they work for you too. Sweet dreams!
